The late 70’s brought to light the fact that hard work, attention to detail and persistence makes a successful carpenter, builder and businessman. After working in the then booming Las Vegas building industry, learning about how even in a challenged market that a good work ethic and attention to detail can be a desirable and marketable attribute for a Carpenter/Builder. My interests turned to a more historic portion of the building industry and I found myself working in the historic district focusing on preservation/renovation in the Princeton New Jersey area. My old time mentor, then 85 years old, taught me that whatever you do, do it with character. He instilled a mindset that people preferred a builder that would completely understand their position, deal with things realistically and honestly and give them an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay. Doing recreations on some of the old mansions, Princeton University and Luxury homes gave me some very valuable experience I still utilize today.
Life changes brought me to a new era in my building career and a move to Southwestern Montana in the mid 80’s. I quickly fell into a unique niche market where luxury high end homes were hidden away in some of the most remote mountain locations imaginable. Building for clients from all parts of the world, gave me even more experience in the building styles of different cultures. From a large European style home for a British family to luxury log homes for retired CEO’s, we dealt with all different styles of homes and personalities of people. All the while upholding the idea that I could start off building for clients and at the end of the job I could end up with lifelong friends. Some clients were continually finding more projects and bringing us back time after time.
In 2005, I made the move to Telluride at the urging of family. Striving to bring a new level of service to an already booming market. I saw this move as a challenge to work and compete with some of the finest custom builders in Colorado. To be able to work with a new group of Architects who have been afforded the opportunity to create some of Colorado’s best designed resort homes. I have never been one to back down from a challenge!
It is my goal to bring my nearly 30 years of hands-on home building, realistic project management and attention to detail and offer it up to the discriminating home owners in Telluride. I strive to share my ideas with my employees and encourage them to grow, prosper and excel. I want everyone involved to feel like they are building a legacy…..not just a home!
